Retrain your brain...

Living in victory means that sometimes you have to develop new habits. If you’ve been negative for a long time, you’ve got to retrain your thinking from “I can’t” to “I can;” from “It won’t happen” to “It will happen;” from “I’ll never get well” to “God is restoring health unto me;” from “I never get any good breaks” to “God’s favor surrounds me like a shield;” from “I’ve made too many mistakes. I’m all washed up” to “I’m redeemed and forgiven. My best days are still out in front of me.” It’s like reprogramming a computer. Sometimes you have to wipe off the old, outdated, dysfunctional software and load in something new.
If you’ve spent your days focused on how things won’t work, it’s time to focus on how things will work out! It doesn’t matter how bad it looks, how many people have told you no, or how long it’s been that way, God has the final say. It’s not over till God says it’s over. Shake off the self-pity. Shake off the disappointment. Let go of the old and choose to believe.
(paraphrased from Joel Osteen's devotional prayer)

Let your head and heart truly believe in all the good that is to come to you!
Sending warmth and hugs,
Colleen :-)

Fearlessly and wondrously prosperous...

"Life presents many opportunities to demonstrate strength and courage. I may stretch myself and increase my gifts to others. Or I may leave the security of a relationship or job to better care for myself. Every time I practice courage, I contribute to my prosperity.

I make choices based on what feeds my soul and benefits those around me. As I do, I tap in to hidden resources. Spirit enables me to face difficulties and overcome them.

Courage is like muscle. I build it up over time with each act outside my comfort zone. I create strength that will last a lifetime and I am fearlessly prosperous."

from The Word of the Day (paraphrased slightly)

Be strong and courageous so that you may prosper in so many ways!

Bottled water follow-up...

People have been sharing with me that there are many high schools and colleges that ban plastic water bottles from being on their campus.

Besides the impact the plastic water bottles have on our health, it is a way to help keep our environment and dear Earth cleaner. (ironically after garbage day just yesterday, several plastic water bottles were rolling around on my driveway from other people's garbage cans.....a sign to remind me to share this further info with you :-)

So here is the link:

www.banthebottle.net

While on the website, you can also go to "map of campaigns" to visually see where the bans are happening and if you scroll further down, you will see a list of the schools and organizations as well.

Get those glass and stainless steel refillable bottles out and start using them!

Thank you for helping all of us,

Colleen :-)

UNFAIR WAR

I lost a war! But it was not fair.
See, my opponent didn’t even think.
It’s hard to believe it that I’ve been defeated
By such a tiny, little thing!

And I thought for hours, trying various tactics,
Struggling and sweating to win,
While this tiny cookie just sat on the counter,
Not even cracking a grin!

Bottled water...

Concerns for our health have risen over the years in regards to the use of plastic in our everyday lives. One focus is on what I thought would be just a short trend years ago, but it has been a constant part of every store we walk into....the plastic water bottle.

It seems to be a way of life now.  Bottles have become BPA free. However this is just one chemical that you don't need to worry about, but studies are showing that there can be up to 24,000 chemicals in the plastic we use!

Several years ago I attended a seminar and one of the speakers (with a degree in environmental science) was adamant about getting the message out that no one should be drinking out of plastic bottles.  She felt so strongly about this and said that this water should "only be used in emergencies when there is no other choice of hydration."  She added how we often see these plastic bottles sitting outside of supermarkets in the hot summer sun all day and then grab a case to bring home...,not thinking of how heated the plastic has been outside every day.

Basic Bottled Water facts:

  • The average American drinks about 31 gallons of bottled water a year.
  • Less than 30 percent of plastic water bottles are recycled.
  • Bottled water is full of hormone-disrupting chemicals. Anti-estrogens and anti-androgens are present in the majority of bottled water. (German study, January 2014)
  • People in the U.S. buy half a billion bottles of water a week, more than enough to circle the globe 5 times.
  • Dr. Gina Solomon, a senior scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environmental advocacy group, told The New York Times that “there is no reason to believe that bottled water is safer than tap water.”
Suggestions are to use filtered tap water (from your fridge, Brita, etc) and to also use refillable glass water bottles.

Healthy hydration to you!

Aging like sea glass...

I thought I would share this lovely poem with you...

"I Want to Age Like Sea Glass"
by Bernadette Noll

I want to age like sea glass.  Smoothed by tides, not broken.
I want the currents of life to toss me around, shake me up and leave me feeling washed clean.
I want my hard edges to soften as the years pass -- made not weak, but supple.

I want to ride the waves, go with the flow, feel the impact of the surging tides rolling in and out.
When I am thrown against the shore and caught between the rocks and a hard place, I want to rest there until I can find the strength to do what is next.
Not stuck -- just waiting, pondering, feeling what it feels like to pause.  And when I am ready, I will catch a wave and let it carry me along to the next place that I am supposed to be.
I want to age like sea glass so that when people see the old person I'll become, they'll embrace all that I am.
They'll marvel at my exquisite nature, hold me gently in their hands and be awed by my well-earned patina.
Neither flashy nor dull, just the right luster. And they'll wonder, if just for a second, what it is exactly I am made of and how I got to be in this very here and now.
And we'll both feel lucky to realize, once again, that we have landed in that perfectly right place at that profoundly right time.
I want to age like sea glass. I want to enjoy the journey and let my preciousness be, not in spite of the impacts of life, but because of them.

May you shine with all the luster of life you so deserve!

Dream Catcher...

Where are your dreams right now?  Are they in your heart or head?

Do they feel within your grasp or are they floating far away?

Don't let life's challenges that seem so overpowering stop you from truly living your dreams!

Why not bring them to the forefront of your life and start working towards them, no matter how
large or small they may seem?  An inventive and visual way to begin looking at your dreams is to develop your own beautiful and fun vision board.  You can do this on your own, with a friend or family member, or invite a group over to share in the creativity of your lives.

Start by:

* Collecting photos, symbols, magazine clippings, postcards, samples of all that represents your dreams and desires.

* Find a colorful cardboard or bulletin board, etc. to create a collage of your dreams in an innovative way that will highlight what you want to work towards.

* When finished, hang your new project in a special place that will remind you every day of the important goals and dreams in your heart that you want to reach.

* Remember to work towards these (some may change as you go along and that is okay) each day in order to see your visions become a reality.

* Breathe in the joy of making this piece of art and the gratitude that comes with having the power to dream!

Happy dreaming and planning,

Colleen :-)

Helping...

"I know it's somewhat of a spiritual cop-out to insist that I must
wait until I'm totally healed myself before I can offer healing
to others. In Truth, the opposite is the case. It is the ongoing
process of healing ourselves that allows us to be a healer for others"

Rev. Ed Townley

In serving others we gain a perspective of not only how connected we all are in so many similar ways, but also how much we have to offer.  Some times we do not realize how much we know and how helpful our skills, information, assistance, etc can be to those who need us.

Perhaps through the challenges you have come up against in your life, you have learned through your research and experiences about new information that may be important to people you meet along your journey.  What you know can be helpful, even life saving,  to others that you share your knowledge.

Here is a way where we can come together to recognize that we all are truly the same...
Our needs to be cared for, our desires to be healed, our dreams to be lived.

One soul relating with another to bring a better good for both.

This is how we heal and we help others to do the same.

With gratitude for all you do,

Colleen :-)

Freedom...

Today is the perfect day to declare your freedom from anxiety, fear and the concerns that keep you up at night.

For those who can be challenged in difficult ways with issues that come up in life, fear & anxiety can become a burden that only adds to these times.  It can lead to depression and weigh heavier on our lives.  It can make us feel ill, panicked and even as if we are experiencing a heart attack.

In your home, and in your heart, today anxiety & fear must now be claimed as a "stranger" and needs to be gone.  Who would allow someone that makes us feel so worried and afraid to continue to be in our lives and sit in our house?   Why should anxiety and fear have that power?

Letting go of these can even be scary if our bodies, and especially our minds, are use to feeling anxious, fearful and depressed.  So what do we do to help ourselves?   Find a friend to listen, seek counseling, contact your physician to rule out any medical issues and talk about your fears, join a book club or class, do a craft, meditate, do volunteer work, try yoga or qigong and distract yourself.  Focusing on other people, activities, or getting out with others can be a good distraction to bringing calmer moments into your life.

Should your faith lead you, let the highest power be yours in turning to God.  Remember that you will be taken care of and that you can find calm and peace in all that God has to offer.  Contact your place of worship to set up meeting with the pastor, etc. or being involved in a prayer group.  The power of prayer can ease these fears.  There are others out there that are dealing with these challenges and you are not alone.

Declare your right to be free from the worries that you have no control over and to be a healthy and happy human being now!

Sending freedom wishes your way,

Colleen :-)

Snail mail...

I was reminded today of how important a note sent to someone in the mail can be and what smiles you can bring to others this way.

A simple note to say hello, send a joke or share something going on in your life can lift someone's spirits.   A note of gratitude to someone can make you feel wonderful inside while letting the person know how important their gesture/gift has been.

When is the last time you sent a card to someone in the mail?   We use texts and emails all the time, but a surprise in the mailbox can make a person's day.

So grab some paper and a pen and write away!  It will surely make you happy in doing it and maybe that's what we need more of.....connections and community to brighten our days even more.

Happy Writing!
Colleen :-)
