Asking for help when you need it...




We all understand the importance of asking for help, but those who achieve big things are the ones who accept it when it's offered.  Not always an easy task, but this is how we know we are taking care of ourselves in the best ways.

By providing opportunities for others to help us, we also allow them to grow and be connected to us in ways we hadn't even thought of at the time.

Some ways to ask for help are:

1.  Make a list of what you need.  Food shopping?  Walking the dog? A listening ear?

2.  Prioritize your list.  Rate the importance of the items on your list from 1-10, with 10 being the most important.

3.  Write another list of who can help you and include those that have already offered.  Family?  Friends?   Neighbors?

4.  Delegate tasks.  Match each person on your list with a specific need.  Begin to contact those on your list to see who is available and if they can help when you need it.

Remember, asking for help is nurturing your body, spirit and mind!

An "Attitude of Gratitude"...


How important is it to keep positive in our every day lives, no matter what challenges may come our way?  More and more schools, businesses and organizations throughout the world are promoting the idea of taking our negative thoughts and emotions we carry, and changing them with positive energy and thoughts.

How many of us spend time in our days talking down to ourselves and justifying a reason to be negative about something we did or said?  The chatter in our head can effect our mental, emotional and even physical health.

An experiment to promote negativity and bullying was done by IKEA (Swedish furniture retailer) and the following comes from www.TheHealthEdge.com:

"If you don’t believe that negative talk – or self-talk – is damaging to health and psyche, check out this amazing experiment that Ikea dreamed up. For 30 days, two identical Dracaena plants were put on display at a school to demonstrate the effects of bullying words and vocal tones.
Both plants were played looped voice recordings but one received compliments and the other was verbally bullied with hateful words. The children took part in recording the compliments and negative words.
In only one month’s time, the complimented plant was thriving with vibrant colors – while the bullied plant withered and looked very dispirited indeed:
Words and deeds do impact us all constantly. Including the centering practice of meditation in your regular regime will lead you to self-love, appreciation of life’s gifts, and empathy toward other people’s problems."

Some may dispute this experiment (saying it's the decibel level of voices that may have affected the plants), but awareness of negative thoughts, bullying,  and changing that into the vibrancy of positive energy, is what we each need...for ourselves and one another!

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you, making you spill your coffee everywhere.
 

Why did you spill the coffee?  You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. The point is whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out. Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which it will happen), whatever is inside you will come out.
 
It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled. So we have to ask ourselves, "What's in my cup?"
 
When life gets tough, what spills out? Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility?  Or does anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions come out?  You choose!
 
 
Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation, kindness, gentleness and love for others.

Planting good in our lives...

Whether you realize it or not, everything you are experiencing in your life today is a direct result of the seeds you’ve sown in your past. Today, you are planting seeds for the harvest in your future. Just as the farmer expects a crop from the seeds he's sown, we can expect a harvest from the seeds we’ve sown, good or bad. That’s why we have to be deliberate about the seeds we are sowing. We have to wake up every day and set our minds on God’s Word. We have to constantly evaluate our actions to make sure we are depositing good seeds so we can reap a good harvest in the future.
Why don’t you take some time right now to ask God to search your heart and mind? See if there are any negative seeds that you’ve sown in the past that need to be uprooted. Be deliberate about planting good in the soil of your heart. Sow good seeds into your future so you can reap the harvest of blessing God has designed for you!

Remember, you never know what others may be going through and your kind words and support can mean so much to your friends (family, neighbors, etc). 
 
Pray, reach out to them, give hugs, send a card, bring your smiles, offer to do some chores, drive to appointments with them, make extra food at dinnertime and share so they don't need to worry about cooking, pray more, ask what they may need, sit and listen, take them for a drive to get outside, etc.

Eating healthy on the road...







Food Revolution (foodrevolution.org) has recently written an article on the best way to travel and stay healthy. It may take a little extra work, but your body will be happy you did.

Here are some tips they recommend:

1. Find out (even in advance) where and when the local farmer's markets may be held where you will be traveling to.  You get to see that part of the city you may not have taken the time to visit, and you can purchase organic veggies and fruit.

2. Support local farmer's stands as you travel.  You will find all the seasonal goodies to make your trip great by keeping healthy.

3. Visit local vendors in the towns you visit, a great way to find out about the restaurants you may want to eat at, along with connecting to the community.  Talk to the locals to see what places they recommend.

4. If possible (traveling by car in the USA), bring non-perishable foods that you are use to eating, such as probiotics (non-refrigerated kind), flax seeds and/or chia seeds, organic fruits and vegetables, ginger (for an upset tummy), nuts and seeds, spices, etc.

5. By car, perhaps bring your favorite cooking tools....a small cutting board and knife, reusable glass water bottle, a small cooler and ice packs, small storage glass containers with lids, etc.

Your travels with attention to your health will make your time away from home even more enjoyable!

Compassion...
 
 
 
 


So many were interested in the "When Someone Hurts You" post, I thought this would be helpful.

When you are in a situation that may spark your anger or fears, what do you do with it?
Many times we automatically respond to others by "fighting back" and becoming very defensive.
And often someone may not take the time to understand what is happening in the lives of others.

Compassion is our biggest gift.  So we need to take time to ask ourselves the questions above.

"Is it true?"........For what we are about to say, is each word the truth?   Not half hearted or possibly true, but the full truth.  For if not, what is our benefit for saying something that doesn't match our heart's desire to be honest.

"Is it necessary?"......Will what you say benefit the person you are going to say it to?   How will it help your relationship and make it grow in a positive way?  Remember your own ego needs to stay out of this to truly answer this question.

"Is it kind?".......How might the person you speak to feel if your words are unkind or hurtful?  What are your words worth in this relationship?   Can you say it differently so that your support comes through and you are still able to share your feelings?

These are important questions to think about before we speak. 

May your words be pleasant ones of kindness, understanding and growth for all involved.

What would you wish be for the world?...






If you had three wishes for the world today, what would they be?

World peace?  Eliminate hunger?  Make the entire earth eco-friendly for our future generations?

Suppose we each put out daily wishes for our world, saying them out loud.  Sharing them with others and making small changes daily towards those wishes.  What would our world start to feel like with the energy of many?

As Jimi Hendrix had said, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace."

Perhaps this is the first wish for each and every one of us.......

Make a wish for yourself...





Let the sparkle, the beauty, the love of your wish be given out to the Universe.
Say it out loud to confirm exactly what you are wishing for today.

Take a deep breath through your nose where the air fills all the cells of your body with your wish.
Hold your breath for a count of five seconds once your entire body is filled (yes, all the way
down to your toes and to the top of your head).  Release the air out through your nose.

Let your cells be tickled by this wish through your breath, so that your body feels your words.

Allow your body to truly feel the desire of your wish and never stop making wishes for yourself.

May each of your wishes come true in many ways to bring you a fulfilled and happy life!

A Day with a True Friend...
 
 
 
 




How wonderful to have a place to sit and be with a friend who understands you.  Even more to be able to have a listening ear and a hand to hold when the tears or fears strike our hearts.

Make time for yourself of course.....and then call, visit, Face time, etc a friend.  Giggle together.
Share feelings.  Chat over coffee or tea.  Listen with a compassionate heart.  Be a healing spark for one another.

We deserve to be nurtured every day. We grow in many ways when we take good care of ourselves.  But we need to be reminded at times that what is most important is loving who we are.

How can we best nurture ourselves?   Make no excuses and make time for you....

Here are a few ideas:

*  Take a long walk for no reason

*  Read your favorite book

*  Exercise/Meditate

*  Pray

*  Take a warm bath

*  Hug someone

*  Sink into the sand on the beach

*  Sing karaoke with your favorite singer

*  Let the rain drizzle on you for fun

Nurture your body, your mind and your soul.
It will fill your heart with joy, happiness and love.

When Others Hurt Us...

Those around us may not always be who we expect them to be.  Our forgiveness for them is the way to healing and love.  And love is what completes all our goals. But what about issues that have happened that leave us feeling hurt or angry?   How do we work through and let go of those negative feelings?

Perhaps we come to a point that we know that the behaviors of others do not fit into who we are and how we live our lives.  We have begun to allow their thoughts, words, and feelings to have an impact on our lives that is not always positive.

How do we get back to love?

Evaluate the issue at hand with those involved.  Perhaps setting boundaries, sharing feelings, making even further changes to see certain people less are part of the answers of your heart.  Perhaps the relationship needs a break or different paths need to be taken without each other from this point on.

The important thing is that the way others behave does not have an impact on the peace, joy and healing you have developed within you.  What will you need to do to take care of yourself with these kind of issues?

Listen...





Too often we are around others and as they are speaking with us, our thoughts are already way ahead of them with what it is we want to say next.

But to listen to someone's words and truly take them in is a gift....for both you and the person you are with at that moment.  You learn about, support, and possibly love that person even more.  And they feel supported by you being present to them.

Listening is what connects us on a deeper level, so starting today, listen to what is being said. Reflect those words back to the person you are talking with.

And there are other things in our days to listen to:

Listen to your breathing.   Fill your body with air (through your nose), inflating your stomach and reaching all the way down to your toes.  Release the air through your mouth, blowing out all the air that has cleaned your cells and rids you of unhealthy air and thoughts.

Listen to your neighborhood.  Are the birds singing?  The waves crashing?  The neighbors laughing?

Listen to your heart.  What do you need today to make your heart happy no matter what is going on?
If you can, fulfill that need for yourself.  Or find one that you can achieve within the next 24 hours.  These are pearls of love that you give yourself.

May this day be the start of listening to all around you.

Words of Healing for all...

Do you look for good things to say about yourself and others? Are you speaking pleasant words? The Bible tells us that pleasant words are healing to the body. Do you need healing in your body—physically? Spiritually? Emotionally? Your words can bring that healing. Start speaking pleasant words—words of life, encouragement and thanksgiving. Guard your heart by making sure you are only listening to pleasant, life-giving words. If there's something on the TV or radio that isn't bringing life to your soul, turn it off. If someone's having a conversation that's not uplifting or productive, don't be a part of it. Choose to meditate on God's Word which is living and active and full of pleasant words. As you choose life by choosing life-giving words, you'll see God's healing operating in your life. You'll feel strength and peace in your soul, and you will move forward into the abundant life God has in store for you!
